The Ladies in Pink Take first prize in Communal Song Competition

A relatively unknown communal conservancy choir took first prize in the Nacso Communal Conservancy Song Competition today.

Ukwaluudhi based Isak Katali cultural group – dressed in bright pink outfits during all three performances – left no one in doubt that they
deserved the top spot after a trio of buzzing, pounding performances.

Hosted by Nedbank Namibia, the song competition took place at the Namibia Tourism Expo on Thursday afternoon.

Three choirs took to the stage and blew the crowd away.

The globe trotting and former winners Twyfelfontein Lodge Choir, the Grootberg Lodge choir and the Ukwaluudhi based Isak Katali Cultural group had battled their way through to the finals on Thursday.

In three stunning performances each, the three crowds wowed the crowd but it was the female based Katali Cultural Group that
took the crown following three fantastic, entertaining performances that left the stage in tatters.

The runners up were the ever brilliant Twyfelfontein Lodge choir and third place were Grootberg Lodge.

Nedbank Namibia sponsored N$15 000 for the first place, N$10 000 went to the runners up and N$5 000 to third place.

Nedbank Go Green Fund More than a decade of Support

This acclaim has underscored Namibia’s reputation as one of the leading African countries concerning wildlife conservation and environmental protection.

The theme for the Namibia Tourism and Motor Show Expo this year is “Embracing Eco-Tourism” and in line with this ethos, Nedbank will be hosting their current Go Green Funded Programmes from the 10-13 June 2015 at the Expo.

One celebrated Nedbank Go Green Funded Programme that will be exhibiting their work on environmental education is the Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET).

The Nedbank Go Green Fund has enabled hundreds of learners, especially from the Hardap Region, to participate in NaDEET Centre programmes since 2003. The fund has continuously supported NaDEET since their early beginnings.

One of the main outcomes of the Go Green Fund’s investment in NaDEET Centre programmes is that every single Hardap Region school totaling 50 schools has been to NaDEET at least once.

This means that all of these schools have had access to environmental education and the associated benefits.

Many schools, teachers and principals have recognised the value for their learners and have made a NaDEET Centre trip an annual outing.

This contributes to fulfilling the aims of the Go Green Fund to empower young people to become active leaders in their community for the environment and sustainability, thus underscoring Nedbank Namibia’s Deep Green Aspiration of being a “green and caring bank.”

The Go Green Fund has pledged to support NaDEET for the next three years (2015-2017). NaDEET will be participating at the Namibia Tourism and Motor Show Expo. Interested schools (pupils and teachers) who would like to find out more about NaDEET, are invited to pay them a visit.

Nedbank: Conservation through Songs at Namibia Tourism Expo 2015

The Conservation Song Competition scheduled to take place on Thursday, 11 June at the Namibia Tourism Expo,  symbolises the fun and creative face of Namibian conservation.

It began in 2010 with sponsorship from Nedbank and was known as the Joint Venture Lodge Song Competition, giving exposure to choirs based at lodges in communal conservancies.

There are now 82 communal conservancies covering 20% of Namibia. Many of them earn revenue from tourism to support conservation activities, such as anti-poaching patrols.

Conservancy based tourism is based on joint ventures between conservancies, which utilize and protect the land, and private sector operators which provide capital for lodges, and expertize in running them.
