22 000 visit the 2015 Namibia Tourism Expo

More than 22 000 visitors attended the 17th annual Namibia Tourism Expo last week, described as the premier tourism event on Namibia’s annual social calendar.

The 2015 Namibia Tourism Expo attracted thousands of visitors and exhibitors who braved the icy winter temperatures to mingle, shop, collaborate and network, to be entertained and to catch up on the latest on offer in the tourism, tourism supplier and motor industries in the country and abroad.

Namibia Media Holdings (NMH) CEO Albe Botha today thanked each visitor for their “loyal and continued support”. Botha moreover thanked “all our Exhibitors who not only spent long hours engaging the visitors, but also doing so with enthusiasm and passion and in doing so making the Expo a success. NMH is proud to be associated with Exhibitors and the Expo  is particular”.

At the official opening on 10 June the following dignitaries were present: Albe Botha (NMH CEO), Tourism Minister Pohamba Shifeta, Windhoek Mayor Muesee Kazapua, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs Christine //Hoebes, Group CEO Old Mutual Namibia Kosmas Egumbo, NTB CEO Digu //Naobeb and NMH Chairperson Josephat Mwatotele.

He singled out and thanked Old Mutual Namibia and Nedbank Namibia for their sponsorship of the prestigious and much anticipated annual event.

Bookings for the 2016 expo will commence on the 1st of July 2015. Please follow the press for details as their will be early bird discount of 10% for exhibitors who book and pay before 31 August 2015.

The expo, which is recognized by industry leaders as the biggest tourism event on the Namibian events calendar as well as the most important annual motor show countrywide, offered the throngs of visitors a variety of entertainment, shopping, competitions and more.

James and Natassja Mnyupe – Winners of the ‘Bridal Couple of the Year’ award, organised by Republikein newspapers, beat 235 other entries to take home their share of a total of N$170 000 in sponsored goodies.

Highlights this year included the Nedbank Conservancy Song competition and the Republikein Bridal Couple of the Year awards.

Moreover, as a first, several street names were auctioned on Tuesday night to bidders who were then given the opportunity to ‘own’ the streets for the duration of the Expo. The N$20 000 in proceeds from the bidding were donated to the Amos Meerkat Schools project which assists vulnerable children with school related needs.  READ More here

The main attractions were foodie based and included guest appearances by Masterchef SA and Kokkedoor and Koekedoor judges and contestants.

Popular celebrity chefs and Masterchef SA judges Chef Benny Masekwameng  and Chef Pete Goffe-Wood cooked at several cooking demonstrations during the expo, while KykNET contestants and winners of Kokkedoor and Koekedoor,  Chef Tiaan Langenegger and Chef Mareli Visser cooked their hearts out at a special ‘High’ and ‘Naughty’ tea on Saturday.

On Friday night, Masterchef SA judge Chef Pete Goffe-Wood cooked up a naughty storm with Masterchef Celebrity winner Chris Forrest at one of the main events of the Expo.

Throughout the Tourism Expo, NMH appointed professional photographers provided expo visitors and exhibitors the opportunity to have fun with a specially designed photo frame, which was designed in accordance of this year’s theme – Embracing Eco Tourism.

The photo booth allowed visitors to collect a printed copy of their photograph, in order to commemorate their time at the expo.

A second photo opportunity was the ‘Mirror Selfie’ which allow expo goers to have fun with their reflections.

Both photo opportunities are linked to an ongoing photo contest, whereby the most liked photo on the Namibia Tourism Expo page can win a cash prize of N$1 000.
